It was our first AI resort experience, so I'm afraid I can't compare it to anything! sorry!

As far as entertainment,in the evenings, the Riu Palace had shows every night. Around 9 PM, they had 3 Riu Palace singers (they were really good) singing a variety of songs from Whitney Houston, to the Carpenters and mostly latin/spanish songs...great latin music to dance to. There was a live band... A few guests would get up and dance to the music, and a couple of times the Riu Palace "animation group" would gather, dance, and encourage/pull guests from their seats and teach them latin dances. This was a lot of fun - to watch and participate.

The entertainment each night varies after the singing. Monday nights they had Mariachi band, the next night dancing, the following night they had a Tango Dance show, the other night they featured "Mayan folklore dancing," complete with elaborate costumes, the next more singing. Usually these shows are followed by another hour of singing again, and sometimes there is dancing, but the entertainment ends around 11 PM.

After 11 PM, they encourage guests to go to the Riu Tequila for the disco which lasts 'til 2AM.

It's a bit low key at Riu Palace in terms of night entertainment, but that's why there's the Tequila across the street.

Day entertainment includes what we listed on the first post: dance lessons, scuba diving lessons, aerobics, shooting range, croquet, cooking lessons, and others...

Lastly, there was never a shortage of lounge chairs in our entire stay at there. There are tons of lounge chairs...the hotel was booked when we were there and we had no problem finding lounge chairs on the beach or the pool.

: Mark and Marie, thanks for the great report! I have a couple of questions. Have you stayed at other AI resorts and how would you rate the Riu Palace in comparison? How was the entertainment, and was there any shortage of lounge chairs at the beach or pool?
