Day of the Dead info?

My partner and I will be staying at the Riu Tequila the week starting 10/28, and I just realized that we will be in Mexico for Day of the Dead. (As Halloween is my partner's favorite holiday, we're looking forward to it).
Does anyone know what local activities in the PDC area take place for this? If not any specific info, has anyone ever been in the region any year at that time that can give us a run down of usual activities, happenings, etc?
