: Am considering spending a week in Cozumel this August. Have been there several times but only as cruise ship stops. Any recommendations on villa rentals or would we be better off in a resort or hotel??

When we first started visiting the island, we stayed at the Fiesta American and did not choose the all inclusive plan because we love the restaurants in town. Hotel was very clean, in a quiet area away from town while still being close enough for a taxi ride to town at night and had a nice beach and snorkeling. Many of our friends have stayed at a resort with AI but that just isn't right for us. If you are on a strict budget, an AI might be a better choice.

We now stay in a Villa in town called Casa Carlita. It is very, very clean and convenient to everything in the downtown area. Smaller home with two bedroom, two baths, and a small pool. Maid service is wonderful and the owners are from the state of Washington if my memory is correct. We rent a car and travel out to the beaches during the day but if you want right on the beach, you should pick another place. We walk to our favorite restaurants and shopping. This home is right behind the Chedraui grocery store. You will be living among the islanders, which we love.

It all depends on what you are looking for and how comfortable you feel. Hope this helps.
